When I was asked by MIZUTANI, has a long history of manufacturing haircut scissors to design a new scissors with their always positive creative designing team.
I did not have to think my answer twice and accepted their offer straight away as you can imagine.
I love interior design, so as I was designing my new house interior in early 2020, heavily inspired by the period from 1920’s - 1970’s, mixing African art sculptures and design patterns with raw brutalist materials, I started to envision these brutalist inspired scissors.
Brutalism is not concerned with the material as such but rather the quality of the materials and seeing them for what they are, so a match made in heaven in my mind with MIZUTANI.
After meeting with the craftspeople and learning about the creation of the scissors by MIZUTANI the only challenge was my own impatience, having to wait to finally have them in my hands.
It was in this sculpture and handcrafting stage that I decided to blend quality and function with art and it truly came to life, why not hold something beautiful in your hands all day.
I had the opportunity to express myself through these scissors, it might not be for everybody but it reflects where I was at that moment and where I still am.
When you’re coming up with creative things, if you even get close to what you had envisioned in your mind’s eye, that’s great. What absolutely amazes me is that the scissors came out even better than I had envisioned. “Art Craft Collection”, A beautiful piece of quality art in your hands all day.
